Starry Night over the Rhone                                  Van Gogh

PICTURING THE COSMOS: We will explore The Great Lights: the Sun, The Moon and The Fixed Stars and their appearances in art, music, and politics over the ages.

About the first class:

When we see the images (yes we will be looking at art) something resonates, memories emerge, questions arise, something is recognized—we ‘feel’ something.  The myths and stories that the sky has inspired from the Cave drawings to the Impressionists and beyond enter our psyche’s and we see that we “know” more than we thought.

We may feel “known” as well.

We become connected and perhaps inspired.

INSPIRATION– in·spi·ra·tion

  • Physiology-the drawing of air into the lungs
  • Stimulation for the human mind to creative thought or to the making of art
  • Divine guidance and influence on human beings

Using Art and Astrology as our stepping stones, we will look at your charts to discover where you can look for creativity, air, guidance, and access to inspiration.

A Mundane Astrological Study of the Revolution in Egypt by Erin Sullivan

I highly recommend this article by Erin Sullivan regarding Egypt and the astrology–excerpt from the first page:

Today, we are far from a new order, far from a “day in which it will all be organized” . . . and deep in the mystery of metamorphosis.  And, because no moment is ever like another, we have neither model nor memory-chain to guide us.  It is a rich time for astrology, philosophy, sociology, ideology and other human/social orientated thinking, but it is alarming to our limbic brain . . . our emotional non-verbal brain.  And, it is “interesting times”, for sure.

In the Canadian national newspaper, The Globe and Mail, columnist James Bradshaw writes: “Political Science Professor Wayne Cox, at Queen’s University at Kingston, “ . . . feels compelled to set aside the planned material for his four-year seminar Conflict and Peace in the Middle East, in favor of a free-ranging discussion on what caused the unrest in Egypt, as the political landscape is remade before the world’s eyes . . .” Bradshaw continues to quote Prof. Cox, What they [political scientists] are encountering seems to Prof. Cox,  “quite un-orderable” and further,  “. . . what happens when the collected wisdom of text books can’t keep pace with a permanent geopolitical shift in the making?”

Prof. Cox opens his unprogrammed three-hour seminar with the question:  “What is it about this particular time, in this particular place that has made a social movement that has remarkable persistence just suddenly emerge?

The answer:  we look to astrology for the analysis and details of otherwise unaccountable events and currents.

Cayelin Castell Article–Illuminating the 13th Sign Misunderstanding

This is a good explanation and excellent Video about all that brew-ha-ha over the 13th sign misunderstanding from a few weeks ago-by Cayelin Castell

One more thing about those Aquarians…

This from my friend Andrea who somehow was born knowing something about the zodiac-she can tell you by sensing what your sun sign is–or ascendant — it seems like a natural knowing. I find her amazing.

About Aquarius:

If Aquarius were a time of day, I think it would come before dawn, when the world still sleeps and only the bravest souls are out scouting around to see what the new day might bring. They work best in the quiet and alone, so they can hear their own thoughts. In the shifting order of things, they try to mark the places where the essential lies. There’s no time to waste. It’s imperative to try to see what’s coming so they can tell the others, who depend on them.

Something about Aquarians

There is something so unique about Aquarians–HOT TIP–they love hearing that!–if you want to ‘know’ an Aquarian–just notice all the ways in which they are ahead of the pack–on the cutting edge–see how unique and quick they are– and how they can point out the obvious.  Note how they see the elephant in the room and with precise timing and a wee bit of innocence point at it, speak out about it– and heads turn–or roll 🙂

In the night sky, the constellation–the stars of Aquarius — the water bearer was called The Great One.  Finding out that their sign was deemed The Great One causes high five-ing among the Aquarians in any workshop I’ve had the privilege of leading.

Today is my partner Susan’s birthday.  She is The Great One.  Yup.  (I secretly know that I, as a Capricorn, am the President–and that she is on “my cabinet”–but the fact remains, that she be the great one–and it makes for a happy relationship)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GREAT ONE(s)!

Astrology is the great bridge-Visit Erin Sullivan’s site

The notice regarding the BBC production called Wonders of the Solar System, was posted by my friend and very accomplished astrologer, Erin Sullivan at her site www.erinsullivan.com.  In my attempt to share resources with you and point you in the direction of the best of the best of Astrology—I invite you to visit Erin’s site and take advantage of her work for your study of the heavens.

She has a video blog worth watching and listening to that focuses on Venus through the houses–very great.

Erin’s book Saturn in Transit really gave me a place to stand with regard to astrology and the astute and exact conversations that occur when one looks at the Saturn cycle in one’s life.

on Erin’s blog:

The Astrological Association of Great Britain is, at present, collecting the names and email address of all who wish make known their objections to the misrepresentation of astrology by astronomers specific to the BBC Programme “Wonders of the Solar System“.

Please click on the submit button if you would like your name added to the petition, thereby helping the otherwise fantastic BBC to be aware that astrology is also a minion of our solar system!

Astrology:  astro-logos = the interpretation of the stars (hermeneutics)

Astrophysics:  astro-physis = the nature of the stars

Astronomy:  astro-nomos = the laws of the stars

Astrology is the great bridge between earth and its lifeforce and the heavens . . .

Thank you, Erin Sullivan

Welcome

It has come to this!  A Blog.

On several occasions, I have had questions asked that would apply to more than just one person, or I’ve come across an article I think you might like, or information I think you would want to have———–sooooo I’m setting this up for you, my clients, friends and family.  I plan to invite other Astrologers to write for this as well, so you have some great stuff to look forward to.

And as I watch a revolution take place in Egypt I’m posting the schedule for an amazing series for 2011.
See the next post and I’ll see you next time!

Go inside a stone

My friend Andrea sends me poems.  And she inspired me to do this blog–by doing her own.  Visit Andrea’s blog: Go Ask Alice
Me and A 1975

Go inside a stone.
That would be my way.
Let somebody else become a dove
Or gnash with a tiger’s tooth.
I am happy to be a stone.

From the outside the stone is a riddle;
No one knows how to answer it.
Yet within, it must be cool and quiet
Even though a cow steps on it full weight,
Even though a child throws it in a river;
The stone sinks, slow, unperturbed
To the river bottom
Where the fishes come to knock on it
And listen.

I have seen sparks fly out
When two stones are rubbed,
So perhaps it is not dark inside after all;
Perhaps there is a moon shining
From somewhere, as though behind a hill—
Just enough light to make out
The strange writings, the star-charts
On the inner walls.
